There are a number of ways in which criminals can intercept correspondence, email or otherwise, and request that funds should be sent to a ‘new’ bank or building society account.
Although at Moreland & Co we have stringent security measures in place to protect us and our clients, we have recently been made aware that unsolicited emails have been sent purporting to be from Moreland & Co. The emails show a Moreland & Co fee earners name followed by an email address that is unrelated to our firm.
Whilst we continue to have strict security measures in place and exercise due diligence, it is not always possible to avoid cyber-crime altogether.
Please be particularly cautious when requests for funds are received through electronic media.
You must ensure that the email address of the sender matches our genuine address – if you are unsure, please call the fee earner dealing with your matter to verify its authenticity before opening.
If you receive an email advising that our account details have been changed at short notice, please DO NOT respond to that email. OUR ACCOUNT DETAILS WILL NOT CHANGE during your transaction. If you receive any emails, correspondence or telephone calls claiming our account details have changed DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY. Please contact us immediately.
If you have been asked by the fee earner dealing with your case to send funds by bank transfer, please call us before hand to confirm the bank details.
If you have any concerns or doubts about the authenticity of emails and/or attachments which appear to be from Moreland & Co, please do not open them and instead call us on 020 8364 3677 and ask to speak to either DANNY DIONISSIOU or STAVROULLA DIONISSIOU, both of whom are Directors of Moreland & Co and who will be able to verify their authenticity .
